Don't Spectate; Participate

Story Behind The Song #9

I marched for Nelson Mandela in London in the 80’s. He was unfairly imprisoned by the South African apartheid regime. Then he became the leader of that country. The people made that happen.

During the march, a man in a pointy green mohawk saw me standing on the side of the road. He got in my face and said “don’t spectate; participate.” I filed that away for later.

We the people do not have to settle for scoundrels at the top. If more of us actually would have voted these last 30 years, perhaps some of these Supreme Court justices wouldn’t even have their jobs, and therefore would not be able to roll back the clock on the same citizens we have been screwing over from before we were even a country. Thanks for voting, and for participating in your communities.

I am headed to Japan.

All the best to you and your families.
